Alternative Names and Subvarieties: The official name of this grape is Calabrese (“Calabrian”), but given that almost all of it grows in Sicilia and most Sicilians call it Nero d’Avola after a Sicilian city rather than neighboring Calabria, the world knows it better as Nero d’Avola.
