WHITE WINES
  • Bianco (Wh, WhSw): Minimum 60% Grechetto and/or Trebbiano Toscano (locally Procanico) + OAWG
  • Superiore (Bianco)
DESSERT AND SPECIALTY WINES
  • Muffa Nobile (WhSw): Minimum 60% Grechetto and/or Trebbiano + OAWG
  • Vendemmia Tardiva (WhSw): Minimum 60% Grechetto and/or Trebbiano + OAWG

  • Classico, the historic production area, entirely in Umbria

Significant Production Rules

  • Vineyard elevation: Minimum 100 m (330 ft); maximum 500 m (1,640 ft)
  • For Muffa Nobile (noble rot), botrytized grapes must achieve a minimum potential alcohol level of 16.0%
  • For Vendemmia Tardiva, grapes cannot be harvested until after October 1
  • Minimum alcohol level: 10.0% for Vendemmia Tardiva (13.0% potential); 10.5% for Muffa Nobile; 11.5% for Bianco (see Note 2); 12.0% for Superiore
  • Aging: For Superiore, minimum approx. 5 months (ERD = March 1, V+1)

Notes:

Note 1: Nearly all of the denomination is located in Umbria, with only a small segment (about 5%) in neighboring Lazio.

Note 2: Due to vineyard damage caused by exceptional rains in April–May 2024, the minimum alcohol level for the basic Bianco (not Superiore) from the 2024 harvest only was reduced to 10.0%.
