  • Bianco (Wh, WhFr): Any proportions of grape varieties approved for the region of Abruzzo
  • Varietals (Wh, WhFr): Minimum 85% of any one of the listed grape varieties + OAG
  • Dual, triple, or quadruple varietals (Wh, WhFr): Any proportions of two, three, or four varieties listed above (minimum 15% each), listed on label in descending order
ROSATO WINES
  • Rosato (Ro, RoFr): Any proportions of grape varieties
  • Varietals (Ro, RoFr): Minimum 85% Merlot, Pinot Nero, or Sangiovese + OARG
RED WINES
  • Rosso (Rd, RdFr): Any proportions of grape varieties approved for the region of Abruzzo
  • Varietals (Rd, RdFr): Minimum 85% any one of the listed red grape varieties + OAG
  • Dual, triple, or quadruple varietals (Rd, RdFr,): Any proportions of two, three, or four varieties listed above (minimum 15% each), listed on label in descending order
  • Novello (Rosso)
DESSERT AND SPECIALTY WINES
  • Bianco Passito (Wh, WhSw): Same as Bianco
  • Rosso Passito (Rd, RdSw): Same as Rosso

Significant Production Rules

  • Zone of production: Entire region of Abruzzo
  • Grapes for Passito may be dried on or off the vine
  • Minimum alcohol level: 10.0% for Bianco; 10.5% for Rosato and Rosso; 11.0% for Novello; 11.0% for Passito (16.0% potential)
  • Aging: No minimums specified
