Top Ten Quality Wine Denominations

DOPs with the largest volume production in 2015

These 10 denominations accounted for almost half of the total volume of Italian DOP-level wine in 2015. Total DOP volume increased by about 3% over 2015. Prosecco’s already dominant position grew even more impressive with another 15% growth in production. Chianti Classico also posted a huge gain, up more than 35% over its strong 2014 volume. At the other end of the scale, Asti and Soave both experienced double-digit declines. Sicilia DOC and Valpolicella DOC moved into the top 10 at the expense of Alto Adige DOC and Piemonte DOC.
